As part of the launch of Sebastian Studios’ ART 101 teaching studio in the Valley, students’ works will be on display in the gallery upstairs at Discount Art Warehouse, 34 Arthur Street, Fortitude Valley from Wednesday, 21 April – 2 May. There will be a ‘meet the artists’ gathering on Saturday, 24 April from 3 – 5pm.

The exhibition showcases the work from students with varying levels of experience. From abstracts to stylised florals and nudes to realist landscapes – this exhibition has it all! The show promises an eclectic mix of styles and subjects illustrating the scope of tuition offered by Sebastian Studios.

Artist, Mel Howard, founded Sebastian Studios in early 2009 that has grown to include a new, 100 square metre studio space right inside the Discount Art Warehouse on Arthur Street. The studio offers a range of tuition including: monthly life drawing sessions; weekly art classes; full day workshops twice a month and corporate team building events. “Mel’s approach is like no other and what she has helped me to paint is really beyond my expectation… I have studied art before and I’ve even been to other adult art classes but I’ve found them frustrating and heavy in theory and that doesn’t make a finished piece very accessible, affordable or enjoyable.” Says Andrea Gallagher, a student who has been attending the studio’s weekly sessions for just over a month.

Not only does this exhibition serve as the launch of Sebastian Studios in the Valley, but so too the brand new gallery space available for hire from Discount Art Warehouse. As an introductory offer until 31 July, the space will be available for $400/week, with local schools invited to exhibit free for one week.
